Task:
In small groups (2's and 3's) you are going to use the IA marking criteria to assess 3 pieces of work. You should focus on the historical content rather than SPAG. We will return to this activity from time to time as we progress in our IA writing.
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT MARK SCHEME
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT STUDENT MARK SHEET
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT 1: To what extent did Hitler create a totalitarian system of government?
Answer the following questions:
Criterion A: Identification and evaluation of sources (6 marks)
Is the investigation clearly stated and appropriate?
Are they appropriate sources?
Have they considered the NOPC of the two sources?
Criterion B: Investigation (15 marks)
Is there sufficient acknowledgement of perspectives?
Is there a thorough explanation, that answers the question in enough range and depth?
Criterion C: Reflection (4 marks)
Have they considered:
What methods are used by historians and did they use these in their investigation?
What did the investigation highlight to you about the limitations of those methods?
What are the challenges facing the historian? How do they differ from the challenges facing a scientist or a mathematician?
What challenges in particular does archive-based history present?
How can the reliability of sources be evaluated?
What is the difference between bias and selection?
What constitutes a historical event?
Who decides which events are historically significant?
Is it possible to describe historical events in an unbiased way?
What is the role of the historian?
Should terms such as “atrocity” be used when writing about history, or should value judgments be
avoided?
If it is difficult to establish proof in history, does that mean that all versions are equally acceptable?
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT 2: How successful was Mao in reasserting his authority over the CCP through the Cultural Revolution
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT 3: To what extent did World War II lead to women becoming permanent participants in the labour force?
